Palinerston North last night as a welcome to .Their Excellencies the Governor and Lady Pluhket was a very .brilliant 'affair. The Opera/House, in which the reception was : whs carpetpd, and beautifully decorated with; palms and ferns,' and the' frocks worn by; the 'ladies; present' w6re exceptionally handsome. - Her Excellency Lady Plunket woro'a lovely " . frock of crealm. satin'with net sleeves •trim- ' med'-with silver, sequins,' and her ornaments were 'of' diamonds.' The Hon'. Kathleen Pluhket wore cornflower blue silk made in empire stylei with trimmings' of pearl em- . ■ broidery. : -Mrs. Waterfield's frock was of • exquisitely etribroidered net over si}k; Miss ' Williams, who was with the Vice-Regal .party, was in blue silk with trimming of silver tissue embroidered, Ono of . the .most .striking gowns. in the assemblage was that worn by Sirs. Freeman Jackson. It :' was of magnificently-embroid-ered cream net trimmed with bands of black velvet. Another beautiful gown was worn by,;*-Mrs. Porritt. This' was 'of cream' lace-over glace, with wide blue" velvet belt! jlrs. W. T. Wood was in a black-silk frock with breastknot of dark pink roses ;-Mrs, J.
