M'Nab as he passed through. .Christchurch on Saturday night, and urged the. acquiring of tho Acjiray Estate under the Land for Settlements Act for closer settlement. A petition was presented, signed by ,400 residents in tho locality, urging tho acquisition of ' tho estate. 'It was stated that tho property adjoined the Culverden Estßte 'on tho northern end, and consisted, of some 12,000 or 13,000 acres, and was much hotter land than Culvei'den. '■ Very little expense would be incurred in roading it, and it would be a great boon if they, could have tho estato cut up for -settlement.' Mr. Buddo, M.P., said that the feeling of the residents was vory strong in tho matter. In regard to the Culverden Estato, thero would be 767 disappointed people after Friday. ...

The Minister said ho was of opinion that Achray would cut up much bottor than Culverden: He would put the matter before tho chairinan of • tho'• Lant) Pu'rchaso Board. •Thero had been an immense number of applicants for Culverden, and some provision would have to bo niado with a viaiv to satisfying at least some portion of tho disappointed applicants.
