"■ — ■ THE REPORT. : •• THE CLUB OWNS ITS LINKS. • The thirteenth report of tho Wellington Golf Club, to be presented to the annual mooting on Thursday evening, states -that members are to bo congratulated upon now being able to show for tho first tune in its history, that ..the ,club owns; its' own-freehold, tho purchase of which has been completed during the past year. Tho assets of the club, which amount to £12,204 10s., aro taken in at a sum well within their value. It is estimated that a . > further sum of £1200 -will ; complete ..the 'payments; for tho club house and furnisliings and a sum of from £200. to £300 may. possibly be necessary ' for planting'' and. laying out the links,i'erection ofi bridges;'etc.', Tho club -has still to receive £1500 from tho mortgagees, and tho-bal'ance of any further expenditure will be made up by the profit on sections still to-lie sold. Tho revenue account for, the past year practically balances, itself, the,;.difference .between receipts and disbursements being only 15s. The committee will submit estimates at the meeting showing -that' tho strictest economy must bp exercised during tho coming season, otherwise a deficionby will result. ' In the meantime; the question qf increasing the subscription can stand in abeyance,' but the committee considers 1 that an increase in the following year is inevitable. The-alternative is a substantial increase in membership. It is stated that the work of laying out the new course' is now in hand, and as soon as this work is completed the members will be in a better position to realise what a fino property, they possess for' golfingpurposes. The comihitteo trusts that overy moinber will take a porsonal interest in tho links and pay strict attention to the rules of the gamo, so as to enable all players-to enjoy their rounds in strict conformity with the! rules. The committed'invites members to contribute plants to the club, so as to assist in the planting scheme which the committee has in view. Trees of all_ sorts, bulbs, and other plants will bo, useful, ill order that the grounds may bo made still more picturesque and attractive. Every effort will bo made to have the tennis, courts in first-class condition by next spring. Special attention is now being given to tne laying out of the permanent greens, as playing over tho present temporary greens must be moro or i less .trying to members. ■ The',incoming . committee will also have to take into consideration tho. erection-of.bunkers whero-required. Tho committee desires to placo on record its appreciation of the very valuablo services ..rendered by Messrs.' Coom.and Mairolibanksj who havo. supervised the building of the club house, and also conducted the survey of the links, for . the purpose of measuring off tho new course. Special thanks are also duo to Sir. C. Batcsonj who has had charge of the accounts during the absence of the treasurer, Mr. Mylne. The thorough way in which the accounts havo been kept has enabled' the committee to place on permanent record in tho books of the club the actual cost in detail of , all improvements and work of different kinds on tho links.
