' After a lengthy discussion, and the moving of threo amendments, the motion was earned, Cre. Goodbehore and Cobbe voting against it. . Tenders for. tlio North Street intercepting drain' were received froni AY. Wilkinson, Michael Powor, and F. Rink, jun., respectively. That of W. Wilkinson, £1095, was the lowest. Cr. Damgh raised tho question where the money was to come from. Ho said they'had to steal from,tho schedule of loans recently carried the money liccessary to! P a y for the work, thereby curtailing the work voted for. It was agreed that a mistake had been mado in the drawing up of the schedule in'not allowing for tho cost of the drain. The Mayor opposed tho carrying out of the work on the ground that tho drain Would not serve the purpose." Thb motion for acceptance of tho tender was finally accepted. ■ .In a golf oontest between the players of Kiwitca .. and Kiinbolton, tho Kimbolton ladies won by three games to nil., and the Kiwitca mon won by tlireo games, to one. Awahuri hopes to clear off the, debt on its, hall by a series of fortnightly dances. Mr. Gallichan, organising secretary'of the Liberal and Labolir Federation, arrived in Foilding by tlio; express from Wellington yesterday. He is to stay here for three or four days, with a .view to helping in the selection of a Liberal candidato for tho Oroua Seat. ■Mr. Stephens,- tho singing evangelist, oponed a fortnight's mission 111 l'eilding 011 Sunday. ' Mr. Morgan O'Brien, Health Inspector, ha? just completed a tour of inspection of the licensed premises in the Oroua,: Manawatu, and Otaki districts. ■ Ho found them in a generally satisfactory state.
