NEW REMBRANDT DISCOVERED.
BOUGHT IN LONDON. A luclcy purchase has been mado by Mr. Humphry Ward, tho husband of the novelist, who, according to the "Lokalanzeiger," becarao tho possessor of a lino Rembrandt for £250. It was offered for. salo without reserve in a London auction- room, and Mr. Ward sent it to Berlin to .Professor Hauser, the restorer of. old pictures.. . Professor Hauser discovered underneath what had appeared to be the portrait of a handsome .young mau tho faco of a youth with an idiotic expression. The youth , wears a black hat, and stares at the spectator with peculiar flashing eyes. . Tho mouth is half-open, tho right hand is hidden under a cloak, and tho left hangs by "the side. ' The face is in full light, and. tho wholo figure is pervaded with movement and.lifo'so typical of Rembrandt's productions. Professor Hauser submitted tho picture to eminent painters, who confirmed his own view that it is a Rembrandt, and then roported to Mr. Ward. According to the "Lokalanzeiger," Herr Koppol, the Berlin financier,'has now bought tlio picture for £6250, or twenty-five times ,the price which Mr. Ward paid.. . 1 .
