It is understood that Lord Dudley will sail for .Australia in August. (Rec. March 20, 10.35 p.m.) London, March 20. The "Daily Chronicle" (Liberal) says that Lord Dudley's appointment is excellent.'' His personal qualities, his taste for sport, and his sympathy, good sense, and judgment will render him popular.
"Tho Times" compliments the. retiring Governor-General (Lord Northcoto, appointed in 1903), on his tact, wisdom, and dignity. The paper says that the appointment of Lord Dudloy, who lias hold one of tho highest offices of the State, is intended as a compliment to the' Commonwealth. Ho ..possesses some obvious qualifications. Besides his 'personal attraction, ho has travelled much, knows many parts of the Empire, and has fought in South Africa. Ho is a great lover of sports, and lias social influence, also a gracious ivifo. He will b,c appreciated in 'Australia.
LORD DUDLEY'S CAREER. Tho Earl of Dudley is just over forty years of ago. He is'a Conservative, in politics, but as Viceroy of Ireland showed quite unexpected boldness in sympathising ' with.
