DEATH . OF AN INFANT. : An inquiry, into the circumstances conneoted with the death of an". infant named Daphne Amelia Rose Nickorson, who .died suddenly on Thursday .morning,' was heid at the Morguo ■ yesterday before' the Deputy Coroner, Mr." George Lambert, J.l'. : Sergeant Hutton appeared for the polico. . Dr.; W. Kington FyfFo, medical practitioner, deposed to tho examination of the body. It was that .of a well-nourished child, and no signs of external violence were apparent. The stomach was full of curdled milk. The lungs were both collapsed, and evidences of bronco-pneumonia were noted at tho base of both. An examination of.the brain disclosed a large amount of fluid .at tho baso. He'attributed death to the action of tubercle attacking tlie lungs and the brain..
Mrs. Daisy Nickerson, wife of James Nio-; kerson, labourer, of Maranui, and mother ot tho deceased, stated that the child .had been ailing and feverish for the la6t few days preceding death. She administered aconite, which reduced the fever: On the morning of its death, witness was civine the child a bath when it suddenly, cojlapsed. She took it to Dr. Gibbs, who was out. She waited at a friend's house until 1.20 p.m., and then went again to tho doctor. The. child died oil the way. James Nickerson, labourer, of Maranui, father of tho child, gave evidonce that lie had been sent for by his wife in consequcncc of the condition of tho child.. He gave instructions for it to be taken to tho doctor. Sergeant Button, of Mount Cook .Police Station, also gave evidence. The jury, of which Mr. Mizraki was foreman, returned a verdict of death from natural causes. •
