HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tim ordinary monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday morning. Present: Councillors W. Galloway (Chairman), Al. J. Lynch, J. Whitenian, M. Welch, and J. Wakeham. The Inspector of Works stated, in his report, that the roads were in very good order, and ordinary maintenance work was being carried out as usual at this time of year. Nothing .of importance had occurred during the month. Two larger culverts had been put in on tho'Western Hutt road, as authorised at the last ordinary meeting. Tho forty chains of footpath at Epuni Hamlet, for which Mr. G. Tuck's tender had been accepted, had been completed in a satisfactory manner. Tho streets formed and metalled in Benzie's Estato, Upper Hutt, were finished ill accordance with plans and specifications. Herbert Street, on the Keys Estato, Upper Hutt, had also been metalled. This was a work for which Mr. Williams entered into a bond with tho Council to complete it wlion the weather should he more favourable, the formation having been done some months ago. Tho -road was now complete to the Inspector's satisfaction. The Lowry Bay-Day's Bay work would not be finished before the end of January. The quality of the rock on the last mill had proved much harder than was expected, and .consequently more costly to work. At the end of the present month there would still be half a mile to bo done, and that could be cut down to one-half of the .estimated cost of carrying it out to plan. He suggested making a 16-ft. road of tho last mill, which could be done for £SO, instead of £160. To carry it out to plan would, of course, make a more uniform and finished job. He had fepoken to the engineer, who agreed with his suggestion, as more money iliad ,-bcon spent on the portion completed for maintenance, et-c., than was allowed for in the estimate. v It was resolved to exempt portions of the Hutt-Waikanao road, Waterfall Gully road, and Moonshine Valley road from the iurisrlinf.mn nf thn .-nnn-m- J
