' December 10. The tea kiosk at the rear of the Hastings' howling green was. discovered oh fire'; at'.' 1; o'clock ,on Sunday morning. A bucket, brigade succeeded <in extinguishing the flames after £15 ! damage had been done. An' investigation of the conditions disclosed that tho fire started p the woodwork in. tho; vicinity of the boiler used for the prcpara-' tion of hot Vater for afternoon tea. The gas jet had evidently , been loft alight after the day's play, and after all the water had boiled away the boiler got heated to such an extent that it set light to the woodwork,; and the fire was getting a good grip when; discovered. The damage is-:,covored by in- - suranco. . ' ,_ . ..... The now organ in tbo Roman Catholic Church was dedicated yestorday. Tho Archbishop of Wellington (Dr.' Redwood) conducted the ceromony at .11 o'clock. SolemnHigh Mass was su na, Father Lizer being the celebrant, Father Martin deacon, and Father Quinn sub-deacon. The choir, under the direction of Mr. Sydney Hoben (at the organ), sang the Rev. Father Turner's Mass of St. Mary MagdaTene/ Tho organ watS built to the order of the Very' Rev.' 1 Dean Smyth by Mr. Arthur Hobday, of Wellington. Mr. Metcalfo, the engineer appointed to advise the Borough Council on tho conflicting sewage reports submitted by Mr. Rochfort and Mr. Rogers, has commenced his work. Business calls him away to' Auckland to-morrow evening, but on his return he will resume his investigations.
