At the Juvenile Court this , morning, two hoys—one aged 12, the other 10—were brought before the Magistrate on eight charges of breaking and catering shops in town. In' ono case the boys" admitted taking- £10, most of which thoy had thrown into tho river. The boys had hidden ,52 keys taken from various premises. Detective Maddcrn stated that the boys had been reading "Deadwood Dick" trash, to which he attributed tho crime. Tho boys had respectable parents and good home's, bilt got beyond control. Tho parents ' pleaded that the boys be given another chance. The Magistrate remanded them till he had ascertained the amount appropriated. RHODES SCHOLARSHIP. Dunedin, December 2. T,he Professorial Board of Otago University has nominated Mr. Alexander Moncrieff Finlayson, M'.Sc., with first-class honours in physical science (electricity ami magnetism), also in natural science (geology), as a candidate for the Rhodes' Scholarship of 1908 The chairman of the Board (Professor Gilray) was appointed a member of the committee of selection. John Wheeler, an engine-driver, of To Kopuni, petitioned for a dissolution of his marriage with Maria Wheeler, on the grounds of Tier misconductwith Jolui Mahori, who was cited as co-respondent. -Petitioner said .he was, married on. April 1, 1895, arid resided with his wife at To Kopuru. There wore five children', the, issue of-the marriage In 1899 he■ accused his wife-of-,adultery. She admitted it, and he x condoned the offence. In November, 1904, his wifeloft tho town, and. he had not seen hpr since. .A witness deposed to serving writs on tho rospoudent and correspondent, who, ho said, wero living together at Houhora. ■ -A decree nisi was granted to be made absolute in threo>montlis, with costs against the co-rospondent.
