He affirms that unless precautionary measures bo taken New Caledonia will soon become a vast lazar house. He says that amongst some of the native tribes 75 per cent, are lepers, and that thoy ' daily mix with; tho colonists who aro ignorant 'of-tho danger so incurred; and further that somo tribes have become. extinct through this cause. The matter is being taken up by tho French paper published at Nountoa,; which denounces the, authorities for their indifFeronee to tlie subject which it says threatens tho health, comfort, and very existence of the colony.
