PREVIOUS WRECKS.

Jho following is a list of. the principal casualties previously on the Auckland Islands:— January 3, 1864.—Grafton, from Sydney, L-aptain Musgravo and ' his-crew of fiv.e, after spending months on the Aucklands, managed, with much paticrico ■ and ingenuity, to put an extra plank on tlio sides: of- the small boat- in which tncy lande<l, and. in that-'small craft made. their way to Stewart' Island, which was reached on July 27, 1865. May 10, 1864.—Minorva, of Leith. Four persons saved from the wreck, and rescued on March 25, 1865. May .16, 186' i.— Invercauld, from ivtelbourno. There was a total of Wenty-fivo crow and passengers' on board, six of whom wore lost at tho timo of tho wreck. Sixteen of tho survivors woro starved to death, and three woro rescued on May' 10, 1865. May 13, 1866.—General Grant, from Melbourne, with a total of, oighty-throc passongors and crew. Sixty-eight wero lost atthe time of tho wreck, one-was starved to death, four were afterwards drowned, and the remaining ten woro roscued on Novembeji 21, 1867. March 12, 1887.—Derry Castle, from ueelong. Tho total of tho crow and passengers was twonty-threo, of whom fifteen woro lost at-tho time of the wreck, and eight were rescued on August 19. 1887, by tho Awarua. .March 10, 1891.—-Ciimpadro, barquo, ran ashore, having previously taken firo. Peter Nelson, a. seaman, was lost in the bush and starved to, death,, and fifteen survivors wore rescued by tho Janet Ramsay, on Juno 30, 1891. . September 4, 1893.—Spirit of the Dawn, of Liverpool, wrecked on tho Antipodes. Tho captain arid five officers wero drowned. Tlio cloven survivors were discovered by. the lato Captain Fairchild, in tlio Hinemoa, after they had been, eighty-seven days on the Antipodes. Thoy had jived.on tho raw flesh of birds and plaiits found, on tho island. Not: being awaro of the Government depot on tho island they -had mado no search—in fact, had travelled but n very short distnnce ffom tho placo ivliero they had landed. The survivors were- brought to Dunedin, arriving there on December-4, 1893. In addition to the'above list a small-craft named the Daphne, -which..'went in-search of the gold on board tho Gerieral Grant, was also lost, with six persons oil board.
