HUTT RIVER BRIDGE. A meeting of the Eastbourne Borough CouiK. oil was held,in the district ou Saturday night, tliere being present':— I The Mayor (Mr. F. G. Bolton), Councillors Bannatyne, Foley,' Howdon, M Keegan, Robertson, Shortt, and , the clerk (J. D. Avery). ... The.clerk brought down a report upon adjustment of accounts with tho Hutt County . Council, and upon his recommendation it was decided to ask tlie Governor'to appoint a commissioner to. investigate the matter. The By-laws Committee submitted the draft of a bathing by-law, which was adopted. Tha question of .erecting bathing sheds with lockers was also considered, and it was resolved to hold the matter over. . Tho clerk, was directed to press for payment of rates when notices were issued, so thnt-che borough's liabilities might be reduced. Ho was ' instructed to press for' outstanding sand-drift assessments. As some, delay was being experienced in . securing loan money, it was resolved to . hold .over,, most of the new works-for ..the present... In connection with works, it was decided that tho foreman, should make fortnightly reports to the Public Works Committee., ■ f The draft agreement in connection with the new bridge over tho Hutt River was received from tho City Council. The "Mayor pointed out one or two matters that , seemed' inadequately ' proved for, and the ■ meeting decided' •that lie and the clerkUhould prepare a reply submitting tho points raised by.hini. ... ■ " The Wellington Harbour Ferries asked. as to the Council's intention of renewing the subsidy for tho .servico to the Eastboiirho wharf. Lit was resolved to offer I'M .subsidy for tha next twelve months on certain conditions. Tho , .clerk, -was., greeted to> protest; to the Board against the closing of . the wharf, to nonpassengers on certain occasions. The sub-divisional plan of llr. Geddis's property was'approved.' It was/resolved to. declare that- the Cofinty. Road, Fabian Street, Marino Parade, Esplanade, and Permanent Reserve are public roads or streets, and. have been and are used by .'tho inhabitants of tho borough for an uninterrupted period of years. The Auditor-General returned the borough's balance-shcet, which was'certified "by him subject to an exception'as to the purchase of; a property subject to a mortgage. The Council passed "and settled the balance-sheet,- directing tho clerk to write to the Auditor-General, submitting grounds for tho legality of the puiv chase taken .exception to. . ... ' :
