CHRISTCHURCH.
November 30. On Monday, while an angler was fishing at the junction of tho Hurunui and Mandamus Rivers, in the Amuri country, ho found a man who had lost himself. It appears that tho man, whoso name is Georgo Strachan, is u recent arrival from Scotland, and was engaged at a bush-felling camp somewhere near tho West Coast. Ho' left the camp on the morning of November 17 to go to a station for provisions. He lost himself in the bush, and had been walking for eight days among tho snow and bush without anything to eat, simply living on water. He was in an exhausted condition when found, and would probably have died that day if he had not. been discovered. He was conveyed to the Hurunui Hotel, whero ho is being treated.' He had only a sack round him, his clothes being torn to shreds. The constable at Culverden, who oxaminfcd the man, states that ho was very badly cut and scorched about the body. He sprained his leg, and for three days he had to walk on it. Had ho not been a man of powerful build thore is hardly any doubt that ho would have succumbed. He is unable to state the namo of the place ho was working at, but stated he passed a lake, which would probably be Lake Taylor. Y.M.C.A. Tho movement for erecting an up-to-date building for tho Y.M.C.A. hero has advanced another stage, tho Association having purchased the section alongside their present building, opposite tho Public Library, and about two minutes' walk from Cathedral Square. The preparation of plans will bo put in hand at onco. Tomatoes. Tho tomato growers of Christchurch and suburbs aro seriously threatened this year with a blight that is attacking both 'hothouse and open grown plants. The fungus appears on tho leaf as white spots, and works quick havoc among the plants.
