PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
' 7+— - The Petone Borough Council held its usual meeting last night, when there were present the Mayor 'Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), and Councillors Coles,' Harding, Nicholson,. Colquhoun, Southgate, CastleJ Lodder, Shortt, and. Smith. The Town Clerk of Lyttelton wrote asking for information with regard to the• working of tho Municipal - Gasworks,. and • the rato of charges. Tho Engineer was requested to give the particujars required. Messrs. Brown and Dean, solicitors, wrote acknowledging receipt of the Council's notice of its intention to'complete the purchase of the lands comprised in the Gas Company's lease. Mr. T. Ronayne, general manager for the Railways, wrote advising that the Minister could not see hia way to altering the time of the 0.35 p.m. train on Sundays. ' A letter was received from the Secretary of tho 'Wellington Scenery Preservation Society, asking for tho Council s support, if any stepß had ' to be taken, in urging upon tlie 'Government the desirableness of acquiring tho Day's Bay bush as a national park. It was resolved, on tho motion of Councillor Castle, seconded by Councillor Lodder, to assist tho Society in every way. Councillor Cole was was appointed delegate to the meeting for tho election of representatives to tho Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board.—lt was decided to supply water 'to the No. 2 Cricket Ground, as requested by the Petone Cricket Club.—The Petone Brass Band was given permission to hold'a series of concerts and dances ■•on' the Recreation Ground on Wednesday evenings during the summer. Tho Church of England Men's Society was granted the use of the ground for January 22, for tho purpose of holding a carnival. The Mayor and Councillor Harding were appointed delegates to represent the Council on, the Taita Cemetery Trust. An application was received from Mrs. Tattle for permission to erect a house on a section m Beach Street, in tho placo of one burned down. The section had • onlv 33ft. frontage,- the by-law requiring 40ft. Tlie Engineer asked for the. ruling of the Council in tho matter. Councillor Smith moved, and Councillor Colquhoun seconded, that permission bo granted. This was agreed to.
