DROP IN FLOUR.
BREAD STILL 4d. 2LB. LOAF. The fact that flour has dropped £1 10s. per ton, as stated in a telegram which appeared in yesterday's Dominion), must bo very gratifying to tho public, which has suffered for the last two months owing to the high price of the leading commodity of life in this part of the world. Flour was quoted at £14 f.o.h. in tho South on Thursday, but yesterday it could be ordered at £12 105.,which is a rather sonsational drop, in viow of tho statements that have beon circulated in respect to a shortago in wheat supplies. It may bo that the fact that several merchants have imported consignments of flour from Australia has had a steadying effect upon a "jumpy" market.
Mr. \V. A. Kellow, president of tho Master Bakers' Association, was questioned as to whethor this drop in .tho price of Hour would. mean a cheaponing of the price of bread, which is soiling now at 4d. tho 21b. loaf. Ho replied that there was no intention, of considering' a reduction at present, as even at £12 10s. in tho South, tho price of flour to "Wollington bakers still amounted to £13 os. per ton after all charges had boon mot, and at that prico there was little enough in bread at 4d. per 21b. loaf when everything was taken into consideration. The prico of horse food was still very high—with oats at 4s. 9d. por bushel and good chaff at £7 10s. per ton.
