"DEAD" MAN APPEARS.
Mr. Arthii't" Albort, '&fcer,'*of •'Holhiosdiile Road, Bromley, on whom air inquest was supposed to have been , hold in April. last, attended at the Westminster Coroner's Court recently to provo that he is alive. A body which was found in the Thames was identified by six persons, including .Mr. Steer's two sons and daughter, as that of Mr. Steer. . , lt. was ..stated,, at; It-he" inquest that ho was accustomod to roam about tho country working" as' a gardener, and that ho had been absent from his homo for several days. The ovidenco of identification was accoptod by the coroner and jury," and in duo course Mr. Steer's friends went into mourning and buried tho body in Bromley Cemetery. They drew his insurance money, and decorated the gravo with, flowers, but some weokslator Mr. Steer appeared at his son's house. The proceedings were necessary in order that the registration, of the death might bo set aside. ; Mr. John ■ Steer, who accompanied his father, explained how he mado the mistake. "My father has lost the sight of his right eyo," ho snid, "and lie lias had a piece of hone removed from over the same eye. Tho drowned maii had lost his loft eyo and had' also a piece'of bono removed from over it. : "In addition, the man'had a scar undor the eye,' and had lost a front tooth. So has my father." Mr. Arthur Steer, smiling ploasant.lv, and looking tho picture of health, corroborated his son's statement that there had- beon & mistake. "It is ■ the first time I have ovor seen a man come to life after I had made a postmortem examination on him," remarked Dr. Trovor, of St. George's Hospital. Tho coroner said ho could now rectify tho entry on tho certificate of death. .
