DUNEDIN NOTES.
The ■ chief social events in Dunedin last week appear to have been connected with the departure or return of Dunedin residents/ There were two largo farewell tens, one given by Miss Farquhar for Mrs.' and Miss Hart, who had been ill for some time, and were not well onough to be. present. A great many guests attended this tea, and they., were entertained in rooms lavishly decorated with spring flowers. The nest afternoon, Mrs. Sisc gave an " At Homo " as a farewell for several of her friends, and at this about two hundred ladies were present. The samo day Mrs. Holdsworth gave a ladies' luncheon party as a welcome to Lady Mills. Among the guests were Lady Mills and Mesdames Gallaway, Morris, >Sargood, and Bullock. One of the passengers from England by the Union Company's now steamer Marama was Miss Edith. Wedgwood from Dumbartonshire, Scotland, who three days after her arrival was married to Mr. Draycot de la Garde Birkett, of the Union Company, Wellington, at St. Mary's Church, Mornington. A fellow, passenger,-Miss Gibbs, acted as bridesmaid. • Mrs. Hart and her two daughters left by the Maheno for Sydney where they will stay for some weok's before Mr. Hart joins them; Miss Hart will be married in Sydney and then her parents and sister go on to England: Miss' N. Thompson, of Invercargill, is staying in Dunedin with her sister Mrs. Batchelor. Captain and Mrs. Davidson, who arrived from England recently, are staying with Mrs. Davidson in Park Street.
