On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Joseph, of Grant Road, gavo a delightful girls' afternoon tea for' her nieces, Miss Joseph and Miss Elsie Joseph. Tho rooms were beautifully decorated with quantities of laburnum; a fortune-toller read tbo future for many of tho guests, and tho most delicious strawberries and crcnm formed a conspicuous part of the tea. Mrs. Joseph wore a frock of navy fand white striped voile: Mrs. ! Jacob Joseph, black and white striped silk trimmed with palo blue; Miss Joseph, a brown striped frock, and Miss Elsio Joseph was in crinison; Miss G. Nathan, pink costume; Miss Z. Nathan, cream coat and skirt; Miss Ewen, navy blue coat and skirt, and hat trimmed with hydrangea; Miss Fell, black dress, and rice, straw hat with large rosettes of black and white and green tulle; Miss E., Watson, brown frock, trimmed with bands of brown and white striped material, cream hat trimmed with carnations; Miss W. Miles, cream coat and skirt, and small fawn hat with wing; Miss R. Seddon, black and white costume and heliotrope hat. Anion" the oilier guests wero Misses Somerville, Jon'es, Dean, and Williams.
' Yesterday morning tho committee of the Society for the' Protection of Women and Children, with other friends, met at the houve of Mrs. Walter Fell, where Nurse Mackinnon gave a demonstration of the art of preparing humanized milk, the milk which tbo Society is anxious to see introduced into many Wellington homes. After an interesting demonstration, a discussion followed as to the best way of supplying the milk. Tho method of preparing it is rather too elaborate for the average busy mother to undertake, and tho; committee were agreed that it ought to be supplipd through some factory where it could be prepared under the direction of the Health Department. Nurse Mackinnon will givo another demonstrationat St.. Helen's Hospital this afternoon at half past two o'clock.
The Rose and Carnation. Show promises this ycari to be an especially fine one, 'perhaps ono of the best ever held in Wellington, for this -is a very good year for roses, and 'a great manv entries have been received, not 'only from Wellington itself, though here tho amateur has devoted particular attention this season to rose-growing, but also Irom the Wairarapa and tho Manawatu district, Napier, and Auckland. Mrs. Wilson, of Bulls, a well-known exhibitor, is sending a large number of. blooms, and others are coming from . expert cultivators at Ahuriri. A ladies' committee has been formed in connection with this club, which will do its best to make the exhibition a success. The members are Lady Stout and Mesdames Findlay, Hislop, Barber, Rhodes, J. P. Luke, C. M. Luke, O'Connor, and Tuckcy. Lady Plunliet will open the show on next Wednesday afternoon, and afternoon tea will be dispensed by girl friends of-the committee, who will wear white frocks with pink roses as badges. The hall is. to be' decorated with flowers, and there will be a stall for the sale of cut flowers. Not the loast interesting part of tho show will bo the tablo decorations, for which there are about twelve entries. '
The committee appointed by tho Lady Pllinket Centre of tne Girls' Ilealni Guiif] to arrange for a dramatic entertainment in aid of, the funds of the Guild, intend to give their performance, on Friday evening, November 22, in tlie Concert Room of the Town Hall. The Hon. Kathleen Plunkofc is arranging for a short play called "The Freezing Mother-in-Law," and the two other little plays_ will be " A Pair uf Lunatics " and '' Nerves.", Miss Eileen Ward, with the-assistance of other. members of the Girls' Realm Guil.l gave' a concert yesterday afternoon to the patients at Mount: View Mental Hospital. ■ Mrs.- Clcgliorn, of Wanganui, is coming to live in Wellington, and will probably take a house at ICelburne. Three. Christchurch girls, Misses Boyle, Barker, and kettle, aro staying at Government House..
