TRADES COUNCIL
The weekly meeting of tlio Wellington Trades and Labour Council was held in the Trades ■Mall iast evening, Mr. W. 11. Hampton presiding over an attendance of forty-two delegates. A deputation from the Meiklo Committe was 'received, asking for the assistance of (lie Council in coiJipelliiiy the Government to redress the wronfcs of Mr. J. J. Meikle. Tlie Parliament Committee reported on the following Bills Coroners Act Amendment. Dill, objecting to Clause 2, 10 power of coroner to hold an inquest, without a jury; also Clause 4, re jury viewing the body, holding that it is often very necessary in some coses to view the body. Arbitration Amendment Act Bill— that Sub-clause 2, of section 25, be opposed; soction 3!), approved; section 10, protest that ns unions of seven members have been in existence since ISTB, to make the number twentylive would prevent a largo number of workers from getting the advantages of the Act; section 48, at, amended, be approved; Clause 3, of section SO, approved; section 52, as amended, approved; section 53, as amended, does not affect the main principle; 53a, 53b, opposed; 53c, opposed absolutely. It was decided to hold over consideration of the Workers Compensation Aet (ill next session, so that tho labour bodies might consider at. Tho Council expressed its approval of the main principle of the Tramways Amendment Hill. It was resolved that the Government be urged to amend tho Conciliation and Arbitration Act, to allow the unions lo elect tho representatives of the Arbitration Court,
