WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION

The] monthly meeting of the-Women's Christian: Temperance Union was held in the TJnion'Rooms, Constable Street, yesterday, and a very bright and happy afternoon'was spent. from the departments of Sabbath'observance, peace and arbitration, and work'among'seamen was reported and,discussed. 'The following resolution was.passed: "That, in.view of tho increasing tendency, to rob some people of their day of rest for the pleasure'' or convenience' of; others, the menjDers of this Union are urged to refrain from using public'conveyances, or other forms of.public servico to.;which payjneiit is made, and also to influence public opinion by distributing;'literature on' this subject." "That this Union.,'protests, against the opening, of tKe-- Miramar Wonderland on Sundays." ''That,.the. Council of Churches be. asked-to arrange for. Peace Sunday,, if possible, the Siinday before Christmas." It was. reported; that-.a number of "comfort bags" for sailors have been prepared, and 1 some 9f them distributed. . Miss. Murcutt gave a bright an] helpful address, congratulating'the Union on; ' the signs of . progress that she had observed in this Dominion, 1 especially in. the, south. She had organised, a very promising band; with fortjr-five members,- at-' Riverton, and gave maiiiy excellent campaign hints!
