The Abattoirs,' Milk Supply, and Public Health Committee reported that, they had received an Order-in-C6uncil authorising the making of regulations for the control of the milk but as the powers therein gazetted wero very dubious, the Committee had no definite recommendation' to make at present. Wright had beautified the strip in question. Originally he had held, the lease of a large area, which included this particular strip.. At the next meeting of the Council a number of residents wlio wero similarly disposed would make application for strips adjoining'their pr<> perties. Iu his opinion, their object was a very laudable one. An amendment by Councillor Smith that the clause be referred! hack to the Committee was rejected and tho report was adopted. •■,. ' With reference to the third clause, tho Mayor stated that the. shod which it was proposed to. erect would accommodate fifteen, cars. Councillor Hindmarsh was of opinion that it would be preferable to build a'shed at Thorudou. Councillor Cohon held that .a car-shod should bo erected at tho terminus of eacli lino. The Mayor said it would never do to havo tho number of sheds suggested by Councillor Cohen, as, in that case, there would havo to bo a staff at each to clean, examine, and effect necessary repairs to the cars. The report was adopted. Tho Finance and Property Committee recommended that the Committee and the Miramar Borough Ciwncil,- having agreed that a fair charge for the supply of water to tho Miramar Borough Council is 9d. per 1000 gallons, an agreement.on that basis and eiu bodying provisions, be drawn and submitted for 'future consideration. '. The Mayor, who moved the adoption of the report, stated that, irrespective, of the.proposed supply to.Miramar; it would, before long, bo necessary to duplicate the mains from the Wainui. Councillor Ballinger moved, as an amendment, that Is. per thousand gallons be charged. Tlie Mayor pointed out that tho Miramar Council would-supply tho water to tho residents. The Council would uiako a profit at 9d. per thousand gallons. Councillor Luke was of opinion that a moral duty was "cast on .the city to meet the outside boroughs as fairly as possible. At tho proposed charge, the water supply would cost a Miraniar resident who had a family of five at least £5 per annum when additional rates on the loan which would require to bo raised for reticulation purposes wore taken into consideration.
