THE WAIRARAPA A. AND P. ASSOCIATIONS.
' . PROPOSED AMALGAMATION. The extraordinary development of the Manawatu A. .and P. Associations is one of the chiof reasons for the resurrection of an old-time proposal in tlio Wairarapa that tho two Agricultural and Pastoral Associations in that district should amalgamate and form ono strong body. At present a considorablo amount of feeling, is imported in somo respects to the business of tho two institutions by patriotic members, who confino thoir exhibits to their own shows. Another important point undor consideration is tho fact that by amalgamation tho prize-monoy now offered by ono or the other of tho two institutions would bo doubled, and would thus bo tho moans of attracting practically tho samo principal exhibitors as thoso who would bo showing at Hawke's Day and Manawatu. It is contended, writes our Wairarapa correspondent, that by amalgamation tho district would put a show on tho grounds sccond to none in tho Dominion, so far as quality and number of stock oxhibits woro concernod. Both Associations possess valuable grounds, which could bo sold, and tho procnods devotod to tho purchase of an area of land and the fitting up for tlio reception of stock and the convenionco of tho public. A movomont is already on foot to acquire land for tho purposo near tho Taranalri-Cartcrton racecourse, or on tho vace-courso itself, but there is 110 ground for tho boliof that tho idea will matorialiso for some considorablo timo. It is agreod, howevor, by partisans of both Associations that, with each body in its present stato of isolation, tho Wairarapa is not receiving its fair recognition as an agricultural and pastoral centre
