Tho '' Daily Telegraph '' says that.. for- the first time for many" yews' trouble has recoutly been experienced in the use of tainted .-butter .boxes made of New Zealand lvhit-o pine. ■ How they got into'use has not boon ascertained. Tho indication is that it is cither ca?olessness of the bosmakors or that sup. plies of first-class pine, arb running out. The pno eomplanpd : or dcvolops a strong smoky* scent, which permeates tho butter, and niina its flavour. Some boxes are so affected that tho butter is not usablo even for pastry purposes. ■ The pine complained of develops a strong where factories. have obtained boxes from Sydney, in shoots. . Packed in this way, the timber sweats, and tho objectionable taint is intensified. . -.•.-•
