TREASURY RETURNS
The Treasury Returns for the September quarter were published in "lnst ; "night's "Gazette." The Ordinary Revenue 'account of the Consolidated Fund shows that tho receipts amounted to £2,014,278, of which £79,852 was territorial revenue; ' The ordinary revenue yielded £1,!i64,426, as'compared with £1,847,516 in the corresponding, quarter of last year, showing an.iuprcu.se of £116,910,. towards which Customs contributed £68,606,and Railways £38,755. Increases were also shown by stamps, post , and telegraph cash receipts, beer duty, and miscellaneous, while decreases were registered...in-.land tax,-•in-' comc-tax, registration and other.; iecs, and marine. Tho territorial revenue' amounted to £79;552, as against £75,182 last year, exhibiting an increase of £4670." , T1i'e vemio was £2,044,278, against. £1,922,698 in the September quarter of last year, and there was thus an increase of £121,580. Recoveries brought in £802, and there was brought forward • ; from the Juno- , qUartoiv £395,056, making the total for. the quarter £2,440,136. On the expenditure .side,,, the, permanent appropriations absorbed £436,254, and the departmental' expenditure 'amounted to £1,173,537; besides which '£100,000 was' transferred 'to tho Public Works'' Fund, the total outgo being £1,709,791,,. ,which,, deducted from the £2,440,136. given .above, leaves £730,345 to be carried fprwarcT to the current quarter. The permanent' appropriations are only slightly larger than .'in; the corresponding quarter of last year,- but the departmental expenditure totalling '£1)173,537 wa5,£69,109 less.. Tho ; Treasury Bills outstanding, at the end of 'tho" quarter amounted to £550,000. ' ?. '"" ''' Tho Public-Works Fund commenced thequarter with a balance or £275,884,- and' received £5500 under the iioan.Act of 1906, and £490,613 under the Loan Act .of 19.07. £100',000 transferred from.the Consolidated Fund, and £767 : special receipts; the total ' being £872,814. - The expenditure undeiv-tuo. heading of annual appropriates amounted to £473,638, matured debontiires paid, off £700, and charges and expenses'of raising loans ' £2078, leaving at the end of tho quarter a balance of £396,348. The Public Works expenditure is less than.. in., tho September quarter of last year by_ .£108,581.
