WATER -AND DRAINAGE.

NEWEST WELLINGTON'S PETITION. ■ The following, potition is being numerously, signed by residents of that portion of Kelburno and. Taitville, which has recently severed itself: from Karori and thrown in its. lot with Wellington. The following is the text of the petition 1. That your petitioners, are ratepayers; and residents of that' area of tlies City of Wellington lately included in the said city, by Order-in-Council dated the 30th day of September, 1907,. and gazetted on October 3, 1907, the said area being commonly known as Kelburne and Taitville. '2. That large numbers of dwelling-houses have been erected and aro in courso of erection in the said area. 3. That the, said area is undrained, and is only supplied with rainwater from.tanks attached to the dwelling-houses therein. 4. That somo of the . sewage and house drainage finds its.way. intoi tho,streets and vacant sections included in the said area. 5. That your petitioners- aro apprchcnsivo that typhoid fever, diphtheria, and other kindred diseases will'bo'very prevalent within the said area unless immediate steps be taken to provide the sauio with efficient drainage, .and water supply. 6. That your petitioners are aware that tho portions of Kelburno adjoining tho said area, which was formerly included within the Melrose Borough, is about to bo drained and supplied with water from the ncw reservoirs now in course of construction (atfor near Karori.

7. That the pipes aro about to bo laid for tho purpose of tile said drainage and water supply will pass through tho said area, and that the reticulation of the. said area could bo conveniently and economically effected at the samotjmo as the pipes faro being laid through that portion of Kelbiirno' formerly included within tho Melrose Borough. : 8. That your petitioners aro .prepared, to pay for tho services rendered' by the City Council for water and drainage in the usual manner. .
