' QUALIFICATION OF PLATERS. [bt telegraph.—own correspondent.] . ' ' CnRiSTCinjRCU," October 2-1. The sub-committee, appointed .by the Now Zealand Cricket Council to consider tlie suggestion of the Otngo Cricket Association that' the Council should frame regulations dealing with the qualification of players taking part in the Plunket Shield matches,' has presented its report. The Committee asserts that it is desirable that professional cricketers, bona, fide engaged for the season by a district for the purpose- of advancing the. standard of play, should take part in these matches, but that any attempt to enlist .the temporary services of prominent cricketers from abroad for the purpose of winning matches for any Association should be strongly discountenanced. Tlio Committee, therefore, suggests the following additions to the rules of the Council(23) No ono shall be eligible to play in a match for tlio Plunket Shield unless (a) he was born .within tlio boundaries of the Association district for which it is proposed 'that 1 he should play, or (br he- has / been 1 ' resident within , each district for'-'a -'period of-.not 'less than six - months' immediately preceding 'he match,, or.' (c). he- has taken up :his residence with : such • district under circumstances sufficient to establish'to the satisfaction of the Council that , he has a bona,.fide intention of remaining within such district for a period of not 1 less than 'four months. (24) i\o player shall represent more than'one affiliated Association in the same season without the express sanction of the Council: (25) The Council may deal with arid decide the question ot the qualification of any player at the instance of any affiliated Association, communicated to tho Council in writing upon such evidence as it thinks fit, and its 'decision may be announced before, during, or after 1 anv match in which the 'question of a player's status has been raised. ' The Council may delegate the whole or any portion of its powers under the foregoing rules to an: executive committee of. three members,, whose decision shall be final. The Council trusts, that,,if the qualification of any .player is open-to, reasonable, cloubt, the Association for the district in which such player _ resides" will 'submit tlio circumstances for the opinion of theVCouncil before team" 11 ™ 0 13 ' mc l u dcU i: iu'' any representative
