, NOTES THE RACING. H. Hickcy had-Kaipotipeti looking in splendid buckle, but it was generally considered that the weight would Stop him. However, J. Hall rode,a splendidly-judged raco, ! keeping his mount in the rear in the early'stages of the race, and with about six furlongs to go, lie sent him to tho front, and beat the op-, position-rather easily" ... Royal Bhio ran very badly, and jumped worse. His form was a severe facer to the public, who.-reckoned.he could not lose. Ho blow a good deal on returning to' the paddock. The fact that lie was never allowed'to get to tho'front may have retarded his jumping. On yesterday's form lie can liavo no chance to-day. ... San Julio had . been galloping over everything ou the track; and hor party would not hear of her defeat in the Flying Handicap. She did not got away too well,'but-half-way. down tho straight sho'went to'the front and won rather easily. . . Fulminator did not begin too well, but was galloping -on at .tho ifinish. . Ho 'would' be better suited by a longer course.
Waicola looked well to .the pye, but whatever chance she had was spoilt by hor beinc left badly. - * ■ Whakawohi mado. his' first appearanco in Mr. J.\ Clark's, colours in tho Cup. Ho got away badly, but .ran/well, and iiv'.tlio straight' flut.in a,stronachailenEe, : ;lnit ho ; was unable to keep* up .the; pressure. . •• .Chatterer looked very well, and Gooseinan was very confident she .would .win. ,' Slio' ran a. capital raco,'but was'bea'tpn by. a bettor horso at (lie weights. ... . Merrio Rose put up a good performance by running. third to Mataari and Chatterer,- and she can be reckoned upon in hor next effort.
The public selected Lucretius and Prize Bloom for ; tlio Maiden Raco. .This pair led at tho start, but tho former, failed to .see. it out. Prizo Bloom is a liice-looliing filly, and should do well later on. • ■ ■ • ; Thera has a lot of pace, but a, 'bad start' settled her chance. • Tho Ladies' Bracelet was the most exciting race of tho day. Tho field kept well together tho whole way, and in the straight anything had si winning chance; The official verdict wont to Maku, a . result mainly duo to tho fine riding of Mr. G. Hirst. Sylvan Park was fourth, and. should have been closer had he not got' blocked at a critical junctiiro. A lot of speculation was indulged in on tho October Handicap. Strathcona was tho actual favourite,. but Lady .Disdain, Scenery, and Uhlando carried a lot of money. Tho winner was well ridden bv A. Oliver.
White. Star'seems unable to stay a mile. He was K in a forward'position allr the way, but the last bit settled him. . Naphtha may win a raco at Taratahi, but sho is not forward enough yet. . ■■ Uhlando was' well supported in Wellington L for tho October Handicap. He was very big, and was never prominent at all. Full Rate looked very well, and was carrying a lot of condition, but on that form can have no chance in the Stewards'. Handicap; The gallop woiild sharpen him up a good deal, as lie is backward. ■ ~. The Sfcako.was only allowed _ to pay oven money in the Publicans' Handicap, and tho public displayed good judgment, as Tlio Officer gelding won easily. M'Grath's stable wont for a win oil Sborlock Holmes, but ho was just oiited. Had it' been'.a six furlong race lie would havo won easily. . Tho-black maro.Volodia was made'a sound favourite, for the concluding race. Sho got away with tho leaders, and covered a lot of oxtra ground, but still won very easily. 1 Formidable was expocted to bo second to Volodia, but Simplex got up in "tho last couple df chains, and beat tho Napier maro, who had led nearly all tho'-way. ' Royal Maid ran much below her Lovin, form. Mr. H. M'Manaway, owner of Maliuta, con r tradicts tho statement published '' in ; this column 1 on Wednesday that ho had to appear personally before, tho. Wanganui Committee. The facts aro that Mr. M'Manaway wasrasked to'make a sworn declaration as to what he knew of tho case, but did not have to. appear in person. \ ACCEPTANCES. Masterton, October 24.
