— *— ' A, NEW DEPARTURE. ' A mooting of tho St. John' Ambulance Association was held yesterday. Tliero were present: Mr. C. 11,I 1 , Powles (in the chair), Ifesdiimes" Rhodes ' '"and ' Menzies, Sub-Inspector O'Donovan, Messrs. Fisher, Seed, Crowe, and J D. Avery (Secretary). It was resolved to.-in-aiVurato an Ambulance Saturday in Wellington. the date of the undertaking being fixed tor November 2. Tho objects of the gathering aro to raise funds for tho assistance of the Ambulance and Nursing Guilds, more especially tho Nursing Guild. Tho Association particularly desires to, improvo the ambulance appliances, and, if possible, to secure an up-to-date conveyance for carrying the sick, and to firmly establish tho Guild for the Nursing of tho Siclc Poor of the City, an expensive undertaking, in which'two nurses arc at present employed. ••Tho Committee considor thero is ample scopo for a third nurse. A plan of campaign has been organised, and a collection will bo taken 'lip throughout tho city on tho day fixod. Something like twenty stations aro to be manned by. young ladies armed with collection boxes ana the post-i will be, occupied from 8.30 ii nil to 9 p.m., euch sriuad spending about three hours on duty. It is estimated that tho services of about two hundred young ladies will be required to carry tho schemo through. A special committee has been sot up to' carry out the preliminary arrangements, and it is hoped to make a substantial sum.out of tho-now':de-parture. The Auckland Association recently collected ,£l3O on Ambulance Saturday, and tho Uunedia and Cliristchurch societies havo also had large street collections. .
