ST. PETER'S CHURCH.
; NEW MISSION HALL, Ab far back as four years and n half ago it wns felt by the vicar and his helpers that there was urgent need for a Mission Hal] in Tsvranaki Street'; in connection with St. Peter's Church. But the movement in that direction dragged for some timo, until at length an anonymous "windfall" of ,£7OO set it in full swing. . Then the work was taken in hand 'enthusiastically, and yesterday colebrated tho first definite step on the road to completion, the foundation stone of the hall being laid by his Excellency tho Governor. Lord I'lunkot wasaccompnnied by Lady Pluiiket, and the clergy present were Bishop Wallis, Archdeacon Fancourt, Ttevs. .Tones, Russoll, Kay, M'Nickle', Bartlett, and Davis (vicar of , St.' Peter's), and Mr. Walton, missioner. • After the usual dedication service his Excellency 1 laid the stone. Ho congratulated tho parish on talcing up such an important work, which was certain to prove of groat benefit. It was sometimes said that the churches wero inclined to consider the people who were comfortably off, but that could not noiv be said in re»ard to St. Peter's. It was difficult to please* everybody, but ho was suro that the work done'in that hall would cut away the "round for criticism. lie congratulated them upon their good work, and wished them all prosperity. /
