THE WELLINGTON CAMPAIGN. , OPENING TO-DAY. The campaign of tho Wellington Y.M.C.A. f for tho purpose of raising £7000 to enablo the new building now in courso of ercction in .Upper Willis Street to be opened free of debt, will bo commenced to-day. ' An enthusiastic gathering of citizens lunched at Mr. E. Carroll's tea-rooms yesterday, for tho purpose of discussing dotails of tho organisation, ami a similar meeting of young men was held in tho Y.M.C.A;, ltooms last evening. Tho citizens and young men will meet daily at the same' times and pltioes during tho' seven days of the campaign. Careful precautions are being taken to' pro. vent; pestering of .the• same .citizens cossive canvassers. ; Each of. the young-men engaged in the campaign is armed : with .'a list , of the men set doiyn for him 'to see, together with separate cards giving tho namo,,-' address, and occupation of ejeh of these.: No canvasser will approach ; anyone for ; assistance whoso name is not upon his list. , It is expected that about me hundred and. fifty canvassers will be at .fork before the '• end of tho campaign. . Messrs. Nathan and ' Co.'s building, ins Featherston Street, will be used as tho headquarters of tho canvass. Dotails of ■ the results will be posted there each day. ' The following aro fclio ! leaders' of the toil teams into which the canvassers have been , divided Messrs. H. Osborne, J. M'. A. llotti T. Gibson, H. S. Hart, C. 2. Falconer, Roes Jones, H. Doitz,- and A. Macklin. Mr. H. N. Holmes, Secretary of tho Wei- ; lington Y;M.C.A;,' states that a.large-nufti-ber of people were missed'in tho: original ( campaign: in. this city. -These will now be specially approached.; . -~•■■■■■ . : Mr. Holmes combats strongly t-lib suggestion that the Auckland campaign is lagging lire, because the contribution made on' Tues- " day was not large. ' Auckland has eclipsed.' both Christchurch and Dunedin, .he points out, in collecting in five days £8000. In tho . same timo the southern towns collected, about' £0000. .As 'tho outcomo■ of. their experience in Christchurch' and Dunedin, 1 tho leaders l of this movement are confident of obtaining £3000 from Auckland duriiig'.the last two days, which are always richest in result. One or two dull days arc invariably expected, but Mr. Holmes strongly denies .that the Auckland response to date has in any wise fallen short of expectations.
