Robinson, the Rand magnate, interviewed, states that something liko a thousand millions' worth of gold remains in tho Rand mines. Besides this, the whole country is highly minoralised. Native labour, lie says, is abundant. Mr. Robinson has all along maintained that sufficient nativo labour is available, and he quarrelled with the Witwatersrand Nativo Labour Association on the ground that the Association was not doing its best to recruit native labour. In July, however, tho "Financial Times" stated that the J. B. Robinson group of mines was rejoining the Association, thus indicating the removal of- friction .between IJr. Robinson and other Rand capitalists. ADAMS'S ESTATE. '" t Sydney, October 16, Tho court decided that the charitablo bequests under the will of tho ' late Georgo Adams are void, owing to tho_ uncertainty of the intention. • The bequests to the sweep employees were upheld. • Argument concerning other matters, including tho question whether the trustees are precluded from selling tho sweep business, arising out of tho will is unfinished. WEST AUSTRALIAN BUDGET. Perth, October 16. Tho Treasurer (tho Hon. F. Wilson), delivered his Budget. Ho estimated that at tho year-ond thero would be a deficit of £77,552. This did not include the land and income tax, which, if 1 passed, would yield £81,000. Notwithstanding v complaints of depression, the imports and exports had totalled £16,653,000, an avorago of £64 per head, against £49- per head for tho wholo Commonwealth. In 1005 the imports and exports of West Australia totalled .£IG, 352,893 (imports ■£0,481,874, exports .£9,871,019). The land and incomo tax was rejected by .the Legislative Council, and the Opposition insists that the Government should appeal to the country. INFECTED FRUIT. Adelaide, October 16. The Fruitgrowers' Federal Conforenco has adoptod a resolution in favour of facilitating as far as possiblo tho importation of clean fruit from other States. Mr. T. W. Kirk, of the Now Zealand Agricultural Department, detailed tho stops New Zealand was taking to combat tho fruit fly, and said that at tho present time tho Dominion was importing moro fruit maggots from tho South Seas than from Australia. Now Zealand might bo relied on to tako any stops absolutely necessary for tho protection of its interests.
