M. Yves Guyot, born at Dinan, September 6, 1818, is tho son of a barrister at Eennos, where he pursued his early studies. He is an energetic Freetrader, and as such was made in 1879, an honorary member of tho Cobdcn Club. When still young, ho took a part in tho revolution of. September 4, 1870, which, on the'news of tho surrender of Sedan, established tho Third Republic. An ardent reformer, but not a Socialist, he becamo a member of tho Municipal Council of Paris in 1874 and conducted a campaign against the Prefecture of Police in 1878. He was elected a member of the French Parliament in 1885; and took office as Minister for Public Works in 18SD. Ho has written many works on economic subjects. .
