Labour Day Programme.
To-day is Labour Day. Tlio picnic to bo hold at Day's Bay undor tho auspices of the Trades aud Labour Council pro-, mises to bo a great success. Pivo of. tho harbour ferry steamers will mako frcquont trips across, commencing at 9 o'clock. All tho arrangements in connection with tho sports meeting in tho athletic grounds are complete. Entries for' all events, excepting the tug-o'-war competition, which has attracted seven teams, will close on tho grounds. Toys will be distributed among tho children. During tho day the wator-cluito and various side shows will bo iii full swing. Sir Joseph Ward and several members of the Government have signified their intention to bo present. Mr. Ben Tillott will also nttond. Tho Wellington Automobile Club will oponits season to-day with a motor run to Pakuratahi; about two miles, past Kaitokc, on the main road to Feathorston. There will bo no organised procession, and membofs will provide their own refreshments, as tho uistnnco from town lias ' precluded any arrangements being made in this respect by the committee. Invitations have 'been issued to Sir Joseph Ward and his Ministers to attend the gathering. . . The Thorndon. Dinghy Sailing Club opens its season at 2.30, and an opening run in connection with the nowly-lormcd motor cycle club will also take place. In tho afternoon a spocial matineo performance of "Mother Goose" will 'bo given in the Opera House, aud in tho , evening tho pantomime will bo staged for the last time hero.'
