— T-0 Mr. K Clifton, of the Stock Department, was a passenger by the express from New Plymouth last-even-ing. Sub-Inspector O'Donovan, who has been on a holiday visit to Rotorua, returned to Wellington last night. Professor M'Laurin's departure from New Zealand next December will cause a. vacancy on the Sen.ito of the University of Now Zealand' to bo filled by the graduates constituting tho Court of Convocation of tho Victoria University District, which comprises the Provincial Districts of Wellington, Nelson, Westland, Marlborough, Hawko's Bay and Taranaki. For this vacancy Mr. H. P. von Haast M.A., L.L.8., o member of tho Council of Victoria College, will bo a candidate. Mr. H. Vickcrmau, superintending Engineer of tho Public Works Department, leaves on Monday to inspect works in Taranaki. Mr. J. M. Batham, Registrar-Gen-eral of Land and Deeds, is a sufferer at present from influenza. . Mr. Edward Atmoro, Inspector for tho South Island, of tho National -Mil-' tual Lifo Association, is at present a visitor to Wellington. Mr. A. Hoby leaves this morning on a three weeks' visit to Auckland.
Mr. Ben Fuller, who has been in Duncdin, completing tho' purchase of the freehold of Her Majesty's Theatre (formerly tho Agricultural Hall), returned to Wellington .fiisterd'ay by tho Wimmera. Mr. John Fuller, jun., who is on a world's tour,- is at present in Japan. He is due in Sydney next month. Mr. Duncan Stelfox, of Manchester, who has been travelling in New Zealand for some months, left for Sydney en route for England by tho AVimmcra yesterday. ' Mr. C. Hall, M.H.R. (Waipawa), who is indisposed, was granted a week's leave of absence yesterday from his parliamentary business. Mr. T. H. Davcy, torday granted a week's further leave of absence from the House of Representatives on account of sickness. Mr. Keir Hardie will bo the guest of His Worship tho Mayor during his visit to Wellington. He comes.from Colombo via Australia, and is due here about the middle of November. Tho Rev. J. T. Pinfold, of Rangiora, is tho new President of. tho New Zealand Christian Endeavour Union. The Rev. M'Donald Aspland, of this city, is vice-president,' Mr. C. R. N. Mackio secretary, and Mr. J. S. Wilson treasurer. Mr. R. M'Kenzie has been granted teii days leave or absence from'his parliamentary duties, on account of an accident.
