The department wrote (o the young woman,- stating, that the. AttornoyGenoral would not make such a recommendation. In reply, the young woman said she had not written any letter asking that the prisoner should lie released.. She also denied haying signed any petition. The matter is regarded as being a very peiious one, and a strict investigation is to be made.
