The annual meeting of the Upper Hutt Rifle Club was held 011 Wednesday evening iu the Provincial Hotel. Ths room was well filled with old members and five new ones were proposed. The treasurer's report showed',l credit balauce of £4 19s. 2d. The following office-bearers were clected for the coming season:—Patron, Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.H.R.; president, Mr.' F. \V. Connoll; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Josoph, F. O'Loary," F. Keys, W. Greig, C. Benzie, P. Davis, R. Maboy, H. Edwards, C. Williams, W. Todd, J. Gorrie; G. Bengo, and J. Whiteman, sen.; secretary, Mr. F. Wilkio; treasurer, Mr. F. v Whiteman, jun.; committee, Messrs. J. M'Kay, L. Kitchen, F. Whiteman, Thompson, Greig, T. Whiteman, and J. Whiteman; liandicappers, Messrs. F. Wilkio, L. Kitchen,'and F. Whiteman, jun. It was dccided to start shooting 011 Saturday, October 5. At tho meeting of tho' Wellington Bakers' Association held last evening great satisfaction was expressed at the inclusion in tho Pure Foods'Bill of tho provision making it illegal for bakers to take back broad after it had once been delivered. One of tho members quoted an instance where a woman asked a cartcf to tako back a loaf, stating that it bad not been needed owing to tho household having been upset—that her husband had bad to take two of tho children to tho hospital tho day before suffering from scarlot fovcr. At the mooting of tbo Mirnmar Boough Council yesterday evening, the Mayor stated that tho latest return relating to tho working of tho tramways in the borough showed a profit, and tliat, if tho revenue kept up, it would bo unnecessary to make a call on tho guarantors. During the past for/ days two tram care havo gono off tbo rails at the rails at the Loan and Mercantile corner. Yorv little delay has, howovor, resulted, as assistance from tho ears following has speedily restored tho wamloring cars to tbo track. At 6.30 p.m. last evening the I'iro Brigade received a call to an outbreak in Constable street, which, however, proved to bo only a gorso lire-on tho Town Bolt.
