The Price of Bread.
FOURPENCE THE TWO-POUND LOAF. At a meeting of tho Wellington Master Bakers' Association, hold in the ofh'co of the Secretary (Mr. H. F. Allen) last evening, it was decided to raise tho prico of tho 21b. loaf from 3sd. to 4d. as from Monday next.
Mr. Allen states that this riso in the prico of bread has been forced upon the bakers owing to the recent rise in the price of flour, now quoted at £11 (in sacks) in tho South, at which'price there was only a minimum of profit when selling at dd. per loaf, after paying freight, wharfage, cartago, etc. The increased jirice per loaf would only continuo so long as flour kept up in price. As soon as a drop came the Association would have the greatest pleasure iu making a reduction.
The price of flour has been on the tip-grade ■ for some months past, and has advanced 30s. per ton since Parliament resolved to retain the duty. The last two 10s. rises were made on the 20th and 25th September respectively.
