FREE HEALTH LECTURE.

A lecture was delivered on Wednesday evening at tho Masonic? Hall by Dr. Patersou on the "Five .Gateways of Knowledge." Tluv;lecturer said that the five senses had been aptly tunned "the live gateways of/ knowledge," inasmuch as it wns through their medium that knowledgewas obtained not only of external surroundings, but also of knowledge handed down from all '. time j to'.toll time. The sense of touch was first dwelt upon, showing how through it we appreciated the nature of objects touched, the distance, between objects and space and the resistance of objects, showing that tho ability to walk was also duo to this \ sense, | in-., asmuch as that though muscular action was necessary, still tho movement of walking could not "bo .effected, if we had no feeling, as' we would' not know whero to .put our,.feet.. Sight was the second , ' sense . dealt with, the structure of the. eye., and,. its • mechanism were described, and. various affections of tho eyo, .as cat--aract, "second'sight," bho:iiso of spec--, tacles, and how to remove foreign.obr. jects from tie eye were pointed put.'
