OPENING OF THE SEASON.

So far the spring-in Wellingon has been most unruly, and the weather yesterday ivas boisterously unfit for bowls,- either as a game ov a topic of conversation. These conditions will, it is hoped, change by to-morrow, when the Wellington, Bowling Club is to formally ' open its green fo.r the season of 1907-8. Especial interest attache;, to the ev;ent, as since last season tho club . has erected the finest bowling pavilion that : exists anywhere in Australasia. The new clubhouse is a monument to the enterprise of the members,;'and their faith in the future of tlie game. It is situated on tho western side of the grounds, midway , between the two greens, and from its large balcony (the building is a three-story brick structure) a fine view is obtained of both greens, as well as the maximum amount of' sunshine. The demolition of the old'pavilion will do away to some extent with the "shady side" of \ the upper green, which has ■ alawys been tho last rink to be taken up by players. A mimbpr of invitations have been issued for the " opening," which will bo formally declared by the President (Mr, T. Bush). At a meeting of tho Xelburno Club, S resided over by Mr J. P. Campbell, [r. Alex. Johnston (vicc-prcsideilt) was appointed the club's delegato to the Northern Bowling Association, and the secretary (Mr. J. C. Williamson) was appointed to represent the Club oil the Wellington Bowling Centre. The green superintendent reported that the green had been put into good order by the new caretaker, and would be in first-class order for play "on the . opening day'—Wednesday next (Labour Day).
