Messrs. J. Nathan and Co., of Wellington, have . purchased tho | ilewa Dairy Company's output at lOVd.f.o.b. Tho Moa Varmers' Dairy Company has sold at a price not disclosed. The company oxpects to receive KM., through the fact that it is only required to pack 561b. to the box, and that it is to receive 6d. a box extra should the butter score 93 or over. —" Eltham Argus." Mr. Buckland, who erected a temporary flax ir.ill on the Kapmii stream some time ago for the purposeof working up the flax in tho Wnimate Plains District, stated to, a " Wai:uato Witness '' reporter that whereas 8}- tons of green flax from tho gullies would work into a ton of dressed fibre, it took from 12 to 13 tons from tire highlands to produce a similar quantity. Mr Buckland attributes tho difference in quality to the action of the salt spray on tho flax growing in tho more exposed positions. In consequence of the poor Quality of a good. proportion of the flax, the local mill will not ba running quite as long as -was at first anticipated. '
The Christchurch Meat Company, Limited, is offering to buy prime bacon pigs in any quantity for its WoodviJlo works from- October 1 next, and every arrangement will bo made to handle pigs throughout the year. Fur some ye;trs past (says the "EU tham Argus",) the Clxristchureh Meat Company has been interested in the Woodville works, but it lias been decided to run the new business Henceforth under its personal supervision.
Mr. P. W. Sutton, Inspector of Stock at Kaikoura, lias been transferred to W'airaa, Hawke's Bay. Mr. W. S. Goodall, until recently rabbit agent at Levin, takes Mr. Sutton's place at Kaikoura. ■

The destination of the September shipments of butter from abroad during this year and Icr.t year aro seen in the following figures. Apparently tlio South 'African market is suddenly growing in favour. J'lio total Auckland shipments for . the ; month increased over thoso 'of the previous Soptember from SO to 90 tons—by per cent:—

Several of-the animals have been killed by larrikins. Lambing has been good and early in tlio Pelorus district. Recent Hoods in Canterbury have in some flocks been,'blamed for a 25 per cent, loss of Jambs. ' Mr. Cuddie, the Dairy Commissioner, has been asked to visit England in the interest of the New Zealand dairy industry.
