MANAWATU SHOW.
THE PRIZES AND FEATURES,
The Manawatu Agricultural Show, to be liel(l at Pnlinerston North on October 30 and 3-1 and November 1, possesses very strongly those essential features which in the eyes of the farmor and.'breeder are necessary to onsure a great show of pure-blooded stock, and be popular with the public. Tho huge attendance of 40,000 visitors last year is a proof of its popularity. Probably horses, alford most fascination and pleasure to' the general public. _ Recognising this, tho large sum of £500, besides cups and medals, is scheduled.. All'"the popular classed for saddle and harness horses and ponies are richly catered for. For good hunting and riding events the, Palmcrston Show is unexcelled, as also for the' big stands, which jnccommodato some 5000 people, facing the show ring. The four ladies' classes are allotted £40, and gentlemen riders £72, in three classes, with' a fifty guinea challenge cup. The cattle and sheep schedule will doubtless appeal more to the pocket of the man on tho land. A dominant feature of the show will be a great livestock exhibition, wherein the cream of pure-blooded animals are concentrated yearly. Cattle are apportioned some £400, besides the Association's champion medals and tho New Zealand Jersey cattle breeders' geld medals; sheep, £410 in prizes, besides the specials of the Now Zealand Romney Marsh and New Zealand Sheep Breeders' Associations, and several valuable silver cups. Pigs are figured for £117, in six breeds. It will be seen that for horses, cattle, sheep, and pigs, the sum of £1427 in cash is offered, not including a large number of medals and ■ cups, Divisions aro maintained for dogs, poultry, homo industries, schools, and lino arts, to which several hundred pounds are allotted. A feature at the Manawatu A, and P. Show each year is tlio fine dog shoiv of tho Manawatu Kennel Club. The prize schedule offered comprises 136 classes with prizes of first ;Cl,' second 7s. Gd., and third os. The New Zealand Kennel Club's challenge breeds comprise Irish setters, black cocl;e'- spaniels, and . rough-coated collies. in the open classes for smooth fox terriers, wire fox terriers, cocker spaniels, rough coated collies, Irish terriers, V.ulklogs, and Knujish setters, first .prizes of £2 in. each breed are offered.
