Mr Humphries moved, and it was seconded by Mr Stewart, “ That this Association is of opinion that all rules and regulations for the Gold-fields of Otago would be better made by a body of ho ua file miners, elected for that purpose, to be called (say) the Otago Mining Board, such Board to have the power to elect its own Chairman.” A discussion took place as to whether or not it would be advisable to leave out the words “of honajide miners” ; and ultimately an amendment to the effect that they be left out, proposed by Mr Moore and seconded by Mr Fenwick, was carried. The following motion, on the proposition of Mr Fenwick, seconded by Mr Stewart, was carried : “That tins Association is of opinion that the time has arrived when a Hospital in Cromwell is become an absolute necessity, and that should a movement be initiated in Cromwell for the establishment of such an institution, the Association will use its influence to support such movement to the utmost of its? power.”
