RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TiniisDAY, January 10, 1873. (Before W. L. Simpson, Esq., RJI.) POLICE V. bFKKDYi William John Speedy, of Carrickton, was charged on the information of Sergeant C'assels wiLli an infringement of the Medical I-Vaeti-turners' Registration Act, ISG9. Sergeant C'assels deposed that he saw a notice in Short's hotel, Carrickton, setting forth that a Dr Speedy would practice on days named ; that he saw Speedy, and cautioned him ; and that ho heard ho had attended a man named Taylor for a broken leg, and received a fee of £l. Dr Lake deposed that he was Called professionally to attend Taylor. Having heard that a Dr Speedy was attending him, lie refused to do anything unless he had the whole charge, lie received the bill produced from both Mr and Mrs Taylor. It is " for professional services rendered, £l." - Cross-examined by defendant:— Taylor told me you were standing by when the accident curred. They did not tell me you assisted the man to his own house. I heard generally that you assisted. Taylor did not tell me you had gone to Quartzv'ille for splints, &c., nor that ho had procured a horse for you to make all speed, nor that he wanted my services in conjunction with Dr Speedy. Sergeant Cassels applied for in adjournment of the case to 6th February, to enable him to produce Mr and Mrs Taylor. No objection being offered, the adjournment was granted.. TAGGART V. WRTGHTSON. Claim £3O. Mr Auau...y for plaintiff ;Mr F". J. Wilson for defendant. Mr Wilson applied for an .adjournment for tfilS week, on account, of ueieiuiaiu's unavoidable absence; but the reason not appearing, his Worship adjourned the Hearing on payment ol 21s. expenses, uidess defendant could show a good reason for non-attendance, it being alleged that he only wanted to atcend the QueenatoWU races.
