WASTE LAND BOARD.

From the report of the first meeting of the 1 above Hoard as constituted under the new Act, we fcnke the following extracts : Messrs (iilbes and Street, on behalf of Messrs' Geer and Farquisson, ap])lied for a coal lease within the Hospital reserve at Baiirtockburn. It was resolved that, a license be gratified under" clause Hi I of the Waste Lands Act, 1872, pried of coal at the jut's mouth to be 12s. per ton, and the rent £5 per annum. Mr George Hfigg applied for authority to con' struct a mill race and tramway in connection with a saw-null nfr&ake Hayes. The application, which was made under Clause 65 of 'the.Otagd Waste Lands Act, 1872, was referred to the Govern merit with the view to the creation of land districts under the 14th section of the Was to Lands Act, 1872. Mr Wm. Jackson Barry wrote as follows "T hereby apply on behalf of the New South Wales Copper Mining Co., to lease 100 acres for 4 tlie purpose of capper mining, fee. ; the lease to extend three-quarters of a mile along the lode which rims m tiie direction of iV. 49° W., and k situated at Moke Creek, between Gill's Creek and the Shotover." Messrs J. B. Bradshaw and Henry Howorth wrote :—"We Understand that Mr Wm. Jackson Barry has applied for a lease of 100 acres of land at Moke Creek for copper mining purposes, and that the land comprises the whole of the 8(1 acres agreed to be granted to usj pursuant to your letter of 19oh June, liifJtJ. All conditions on our pare have oeeu fuitilied, and we hold the (Sub-treasurer's receipt for £2d deposit to cover the expenses of survey. We have therefore to request that Mr Barry's application may not be granted to affect our rhditsi" It nppeared that no survev had been ittade, and that Messrs Bradshaw and Hovvorch's deposit was King in the Treasury. It was resolved that Air Barry should forward a survey, to bd executed bv the District Surveyor, before the Board could consider the matter, and that the District Surveyor be instructed by the Chief Surveyor to survey the application of Messrs Bradshaw and Howorth at once;
