It appears that the Freemasons in Dunedin lte in a fix. It was proposed by some of J £ m that the Masons’ ball to be given to the j orernor during his stay in Dunedin should 16 confined to the members of the fraternity, neir wives, and daughters. After some disNssion this arrangement was agreed to, it '‘Wing been understood that His Excellency r w a Freemason, and would therefore be palified to attend. It was even suggested, ’■' s said, that Sir George should be advanced weral grades in Masonry by one of the leadJ o lodges. Great consternation, however, ras caused amongst those who have been indumenta! in getting up the ball by the reeiPt of a telegram, a few days ago, from a 'ell-known Dunedin gentleman, who is now 11 Wellington, announcing that His Excelency is not a Freemason. The Daily Times, ['em which wo take the above, hopes the faculty may be satisfactorily solved.
