LAND SALE.

Mr J. C. Chappie, Oovernment auctioneer for | this district, held a sale of town allotments at j noon on Thursday last, in the Town hall. The I attendance was more than usually large, and the : prices realise 1 were such as to justify the belief ; that a much larger extent of lan 1 withm the | boundaries of the township would have met with , a ready sale had it been offered for competition. A block of 64a 2r. 2u., situate at the western extremity of the township, and recently surveyed in sections of five and a quarter to five and a half acres each, was offered in lots at the upset price of £2 per acre, and realise I from £2 2s. to j£s lis. Sections 3 and 4. block X., were put | up, but found no purchasers, as it was known I that the allotments existed only on the maps, I having long since been washed away into the j Clutha river. For section 40, block 1., situate 1 at the rear of Mr Scott's premises, the bidding I was very spirited, and the allotment was knocked ; down at £45.
