REGATTA ON LAKE WANAKA.
We have been favoured with the subjoinreport of the Regatta which took place off Pei broke, Lake Wanaka, on Friday and Saturdi last :~
The first event was the Sailing Rack, npj Ito all boats. The c mrse was from the m win] at Pembroke round Hoy's Island, and back! Pembroke round a buoy moored oft" the wiJ jshed : twice round, about eight miles. Mr 11. S. Thompson's No Name, 7 tons - - i Mr A. (Jrahani's Wanaka East, 3 tons - . | I NIrU Flelditeh's Isabella, 20 tons - - . . Messrs Ellacott "c Ifassing's Eureka, 42 tons. Mr Theodore Russell's Dirt, 8 tons - - - - j : The boats got under weigh well together, a <J start being elleot >d. The No Name soonchiiri | the others, and stoo 1 well up to windward. Id ing. The Isabella, however, weir, about short] , after starting, took a leading wind with herd ; the eastern side of the Lake, and standing nd ; towards Uoy't Island, was very soon the leaiM boat, pretty closely followed' bv the WmiaJ j East, _No Name, an I Dart. The Eureka, i standing towards the western shore, lost tj wind, and was soon to all appearance hopeless] astern. The Isabella first rounded the island and ran free round the buoy the first time, tB | others following in the order named. In worl | ing un the second time, the wind freshened, ad the No Name passed the Isabella, the WamH East lying in the wake of the former. Messrs Ellacott & Hassing's Eureka, 42 tons 1 Mr Thompson's No >iame. 7 tons - ' - • Mr Russell's Isabella, 20 tons - •' The boats started away well together, ft< j Isabella leading U p to Ealey's point, having tbj j best of the wind ; the other two boats stood for thcr over to the west side of the lake. TN wind then fell light, and the boats were almost becalmed for a time. When it came on tobloj again, the wind had changed more to the vim ward catching Eureka and No Name 0 seeding them right up to the'lsland before was felt by the Isabella, which was from tH time out of the race. The No Name rotmfH the Island first by a small way ; but rnnnN home the Eureka hoisted her gaif topsails, dre< gradually away from the No Name, and c>3« in an easy winner.
