—o — The Council mot in the Town-hall on Monday evening, the Sth current. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Dawkins and Fraer. Minutes of previous general meeting (held on lltlt March), and of an adjourned meeting held on March 12, were read and conlirmed. Copies oj. outward correspondence despatched since previous meeting were read and approved. The Town Clerk read iuward correspondence as follows : 1. From Or. Shanty, tendering his resignation of the oiiice of Councillor for Kawarau Ward. 2. From Mr M. Sharkey, requesting permission to construct a drive (for mining purposes) underneath Melmore-terrace. 3. From Mr H. S. Fish, jun., Mayor of Duncdin, to his Worship the Mayor of Cromwell, relative to the desirability of holding a Mayors' Conference in Duncdin at an early date, with the view of securing united action by the various Municipalities in the matter of obtaining increased administrative power and additional means of revenue. The Council resolved to accept the resignation of Cr. Shauly ; and the Town Clerk was ordered to take the necessaiy steps for a fresh election. The nomination was fixed for Saturday, the 18th inst., and the election for Thursday, the 18th. (Jr. Fraer was appointed to preside at the election, and Mr Smythies to act as poll-clerk. It was proposed by Or. Fraer, seconded by Or. Dawkins, and agreed to— " That the Town Clerk inform Mr Sharkey that the Council are of opinion they have no power to grant his request for permission to drive a tunnel under Molmoreterrace." After some discussion upon the subject of Mr j Fish's letter, it was resolved that it be left over 1 for consideration at an early date. The Finance Counuitte reported having consi- | dered the accounts referred to them at last j meeting ; they had passed the account of Hayes, OouneJlan, and Co. at i' 34 t)s., and that of Mr J. Wright at £IC 3s. The Town Clerk was instructed to take out i immediate execution against Mr G. Jenour in j the cabe " Corporation of Cromwell o. Jenour ;" and was also directed to issue summonses against all parties failing to pay their rates before Satur- | day, the 20th April current. The Town Clerk was further instructed to I write to the Secretary for Land and Works, re- ] guesting that the main road leading from Oromi well towards the (Jorge should be formed as surveyed as soon as possible. The Town Clerk's account for salary and com- : mission up to the 11th inst. (amounting to £!» Bs.) was passed for payment. j Some unimportant routine business was disi posed of ; and the meeting closed with the cus- ! tomary compliment to the Mayor. A special meeting of Council was held yesterday evening, attended by the Mayor, and Crs. Fraer and Hawkins. The Mayor explained that the meeting had j been called to consider the best steps to be taken with regard to the case " Corporation ?•. Jenour." I Mr Jenour had offered to pay £lO cash, and to give bills at six, twelve, and eighteen mouths, for £3, M'j, and £5 respectively. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Fraer, seconded by Cr. Dawkins—"That MrJenour's offer be accepted, upon his withdrawing all proceedings in the Supreme Court.''' The subject of Mr Fish's letter was then dis--1 cussed, and it was resolved having signified his wil'iugncss to attend ithe i proposed Conference, be requested to do so : the i matter of expenses to be leftover until his re:turn."
