Howson v. Graham.—This was a mining partnership dispute, and presented no features of public consequence. Verdict for the plaintiff, with lis costs. John Saul, of Sandy Point, charged Edward O'Brien with unlawfully interfering with his water-race. The Warden ordered defendant not to take water from the creek until the prior right of plaintiff had been satisfied. Informant had to pay costs. James Stevens an.l others applied for an extended claim of two acres, situated on tho Kawarau, a mile south-west of Cornish Town. Granted. E Yol and others applied for five acres of ground for mining purposes, 100 yards west of Chinese township, Nevis. Granted. protection. George Jenour, manager of the Golden Phoenix Quartz Mining Co., applied for CO days' protection for claim on Carrick Range, assigning as a reason, severity of weather. Case adjourned. Thos. Scott and 5 others applied for 60 days' protection for claim No. 1 south, Royal Standard reef, Carrick Range ; cause, inclemency of weather. Protection granted. H. Behrens and others, and J. Shield and others, applied for CO days' protection for claims Nos. 2 and 3 south, on the same line of reef, for similar reasons. Granted.
Geo. Clougli and another were granted 90 days' protection for alluvial claim in Duffer's Gully.
Robert Bryclon and party applied for GO days' protection for their quartz claim, known as the Caledonian, situated on the Carrick Range, to enable them to further test the reef. Granted.
Robert Kidd and others applied for CO clays' protection for the Star of the East claim. Grounds of application: Inclement weather, and causes connected with erection of machinery. Granted. DAMS. James Bearo was granted peftnission to construct a dam in No. 1 creek, east of Aurora Co.'s claim, Bendigo. Edward Glover was granted permission to build a dam. in left-hand branch of Smith's Gully, Bannockburn. RESIDENCE AREA. Archibald Ritchie's application for a residence area was granted, on the understanding that no damage should be done to the road leading to Richards's punt. AVATER RACKS. R. M'Nulty was granted three sluice-heads from the Kirtleburn. J. Towan and six others applied for leave to take about half a sluice head of water from one of the branches of Smith's Gully, the water to be used in connection with a quartzcrushing machine for the Elizabeth Company. The application was objected to by Messrs Whitfield, Benn, and Higginson, on the grounds that it would retard their mining operations by sludging up their dam, and deprive them of water for domestic use. Mr Wilson appeared for the applicants, and Mr Brough for the objectors. A large amount of evidence for both sides was heard. The Warden granted the application, on condition that the applicants bring in a supply of water for domestic rerpiirements equal to that taken, and that no damage be inflicted on objectors ; permission not to take effect until water for household use is siipplied by apj>licants. G. Clough and another were granted three sluice-heads from left-hand branch of Duffer's Gully.
